Once the software is done scanning it will come up with a list of the software on your computer that may be harming your machine. It should be noted that not all of the stuff it picks up is bad. Only some of the software it picks up would be considered harmful. It is up to you to figure out what should not be on your machine from this list.
Once you do have some good spyware removal software you should scan regularly. At least once a week would be a good idea. For many it may even be a better idea to have your PC scanned once per day. You should be able to set things up so that the software will scan automatically at the time you assign it to do so. A great example of this is how I have my PC scan for spyware and viruses every night while I am off to sleep.
Another thing you should be aware of is the need to keep your spyware software up to date. There are always new spyware and viruses coming out. The only way you can protect yourself against these new spyware programs is to keep your spyware protection up to date.
