The internet is made up of a worldwide network of computers; this can make navigating the internet difficult. Data sharing worldwide is possible through these different internet connections. Many feel that the best resource in the world is the internet. This resource offers both business and pleasure opportunities. Different internet connections that are presently available make organization, communication, and research easier.

We will now learn about the different internet connections that are available. There are many options available, three of the most popular, which are available through the phone lines are: cable, traditional dial-up, and DSL.

As modern technology advances there has been an increase in demand for the wireless varieties of internet connection. With all the different internet connections available, the wireless options are now becoming very popular.

Wireless fidelity or Wi-Fi as the wireless internet is known, allows connecting to a network without being limited to a certain location. Wi-Fi is available in public locations, such as libraries, cafes and many hotels offer this service. Verizon and Sprint also offer wireless network as a long range service.

Of all the varied internet Connection Set Ups, the wireless option is by far the easiest to set-up. Even people who are not technology "nerds" can understand this technology. It is as easy as going to the computer’s Start menu and click on the Control Panel. This is where the Network and Internet connections options are found. All of the different internet connections available can be managed from here. Next step is to go to network and sharing center, then make sure that you select network option. This allows you to manage internet connections from all wireless sources.

Now that you are in the proper menu, you will see the “Show All” option, click on it and then hit the refresh button. The active network connection that you want to log on to is located here. Choose the option that allows you to connect automatically if you plan on regularly connecting to this network. By checking this option, your computer will be able to find different internet connections and the proper one.

Casting

Metal Casting has endured through the ages since the time of Ancient Egypt, possibly longer. Since then small foundries have developed to meet the needs of the individual caster. There are several reasons that people choose to create their own home grown foundries. A top reason is the need to create parts and pieces that are no longer available on the market or that are just too expensive to purchase. Those who get into Metal Casting for this reason are usually interested in restoration projects, home improvement projects, or hobby building like model planes and trains. Artists are the other group that see metal casting as a cheap and easy way to create sculptures from small to large. Jewelers even use metal casting to create complex pieces that would just otherwise be impossible to create.

Given the wide scope of metal casting there are several methods and techniques that have developed. For those new to metal casting or for those wanting to try some of these other methods may find it difficult to find information on your own. Luckily, there are several metal casting associations and groups that are more then willing to share information and exchange ideas, projects, and pictures of the goings on in the their home foundries.

On the internet, Casting associations and groups are either message boards full of casters where they can ask questions, post ideas, and pictures or are websites that are maintained by a set group of people offering general information and educational resources.

Both of these types of websites are incredibly helpful to metal casters who can benefit from the educational purposes of some of the sites tempered with the real life applications and experiences of the message boards.

Lots of times you will find that information on casting isn’t geared for the smaller DIY Foundry but more for manufacturing and industrial foundies. Industrial metal casting sites can be wonderful sources of information so do not skip by these. Use both small metal casting sites and industrial sites to your advantage.

If you are looking for a great group online, you should visit the Casting Hobby Group found through Yahoo Groups. This casting group was developed and maintained by experienced metal casters and enjoys a high amount of activity. You will find lots of quick information here as well as tons of idea’s, photo’s and possible some plans on building various furnace types.

The Casting Hobby Group can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/castinghobby/

The Association of Backyard Metal Casters is located at http://www.abymc.com/.  This online metal casting association has an extensive membership complete with informative articles, forums, and even live chat. Of course, pictures are posted on the site to give visitors ideas about what other furnaces and foundries look like. Don’t worry if you’re foundry isn’t pretty, there actually doesn’t seem to be very many of them that are.

Now, The American Foundry Society is mainly for the industrial metal casters and companies but they also promote information and education to consumers. The information provided on the site is great for anyone wishing to follow advancements in metal casting technology. There is even an online store.

http://www.afsinc.org/ is the online home for the American Foundry Society.

For the most part metal casting associations and groups exist on the local level more than a unifying force on the web. What does exist on the web is a great source of information, ideas, and insight. It is a great idea to join any of the groups you can in order to share and find knowledge.

Metal Casting

Metal Casting is one of the most widely used processes that is used in the production and process industry. In the metal industry the process of Casting is the basic and he most essential step in the process of production. At the dawn of the industrial revolution, casting was a very crude process that had not undergone development.

Need for associations and institutes: Though the process of Metal Casting is an important step in  production, it remained underdeveloped for a very long period of time. The basic need for the formation of metal casting related associations was to develop the process of casting. Whats important is that these various metal casting associations are working together so they can share ideas and improve the mteal casting process. Associations and the groups that have been formed by the companies are constantly experimenting with the proposed reforms in the casting process. Many of them have also come up with sound technical rectifications and an amazing number of proposals.

Aims and Objective of Casting Associations and groups: The basic objective of all the Meat casting Groups and associations that have been working for a few decades remains unchanged. The associations strive to develop the process of casting to the pinnacle. The global market has become demanding and competitive than ever. The associations helps the member companies in maximizing their quality standards. These associations also work for the spread of appropriate technology. Many innovations and inventions are proposed and executed for the technological benefit of the member companies. This kind if technical support helps the company to cut the cost of production. It also helps the companies to increase the quality and also ht performance of their production units.

Work against pollution: Metal Metal Casting companies are often pressurized and also accused of polluting the environment. A lot of information on how to dispose of pollutants is given to these companies by some of these casting associations. Using the same location is one way that companies who are close together work to help dispose of their waste. Many of the associations have set up their own norms for the member companies.

Man power safety: Some of the associations also keep a tab on the safety of the workers. A metal casting industry is a very dangerous place to work in. the associations hence have prescribed many safety norms to the member companies.

The norms regarding safety of the environment and the safety of the workers if not followed always invite trouble from the government. If the safety norms of the associations are followed then the intervention of the government reduces considerably.

Spread of Knowledge: To make the people in the industry aware of the ongoing commercial development and technical research the associations arrange international expos and also many exhibitions. The associations also represent their member companies in many seminars organized on the international level.

Commercial Aspects: The metal casting associations work as exchange houses for commercial meetings. Many associations give sound financial information and also explains the market conditions to the member companies.

Controlling a CNC machine

G-Code

The CNC Control Computer generally resides in the shop somewhere near the CNC machine it is controlling.CNC control computers don’t have to be state-of-the-art, with every Bell and whistle. These are the powerhouses.  Save your money for a good design computer.  You will save much more time having a fast computer for your designing.

A control computer doesn’t have to be that powerful for a few good reasons.  It doesn’t have the workload.  It takes G-Code and turns it into signals that it transmits to the Machine Controller.  Turning G-Code into signals is not that labor intensive for a computer.

I have used multiple types of control computers.  Everything from a 486 DOS running “$30 special” to a modern Dell with Windows XP.  I have yet to try one with Vista.  I will keep you posted.  Generally I like to find a good used computer for a couple hundred bucks, wipe the hard drive and only load the control software onto the machine. That way you know what you got.

There is another good reason you don’t want to spend a lot of money here. This computer is generally located out in the shop.  Dirt will be located in your shop.  Using logic here, dirt will be located in your computer.  If the computer does go belly up, you aren’t out your children’s college tuition.

Here is my strategy in a nutshell for Control Computers.  The dirtier the job, the less money I spend on the computer. My CNC plasma cutting control computers cost about $40.They eat a lot of dirt and dust.  I blow them out frequently.y routing computers are in the $100 range.  My milling machine computers usually are in the $200 range.  Truth be told, they all last a very long time if you keep dirt, dust and plasma smoke out of them.

How is the CNC Control Computer used?
The computer has CNC control software loaded on it.  You start up the control software then load up the CNC Program you created.  When you do this, the G-Code will be visible and ready to go.  Once you prep your CNC Lathe and zero it out, you can begin your “cycle.”  A cycle is usually completing one CNC Program, which is a machining sequence.  You will also hear the term “Cycle Time” on the professional side of CNC a lot more.  The quicker you can get the cycle time, the more parts you can make.  And yes, that translates to more money.

Back in the good old days of CNC DIY, everything was transferred on a disk.  Now I have seen people include their Control Computers on their home computer network and transfer the files needed wirelessly.  At a very minimum, get a good jump drive and transfer things back and forth that way.

WAN Acceleration: The Sleeper Technology Changing IT’s Approach To Everything

December 29, 2008 by · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Technology Articles, Technology and Gadgets

There is a lot of buzz in the IT industry about WAN acceleration technology these days. WAN acceleration focuses on improving performance of critical corporate applications across wide area networks. WAN accelerators improve application performance and data replication strategies, especially when latency across WANs are involved.

WAN acceleration devices use techniques that change the packet header data so that data it can be transferred more efficiently. WAN acceleration offers these advantages: It eliminates redundant data transmission (a huge advantage), because during data replication much of the replicated data remains unchanged. It also simplifies IT management by using the same support contract and providing transparency of services Dedicated hardware and software-Invest in a solution that uses dedicated hardware and software to perform WAN acceleration without affecting voice, data, and security tasks. This feature is important because it allows IT organizations to deploy WAN acceleration hardware without making any changes to user PCs, network infrastructure, or applications.

A true transparent solution should offer all of the following capabilities: Application transparency- This capability makes deployment fast and easy because no initial and ongoing changes are needed for end-user PCs and applications Interception transparency-This capability allows fast and easy deployment because neither the client nor the server is aware of the existence of the WAN acceleration devices in the path Preservation of industry-standard NetFlow policy Preservation of router access control lists (ACLs) Preservation of firewall policies Preservation of quality of service (QoS)-Without IP header transparency, QoS and associated features may need to be reconfigured if the packet header information is overwritten Preservation of Network Based Application Recognition (NBAR)-NBAR is a protocol discovery and classification technique that relies on visibility to application data. Although WAN acceleration is crucial for delivering applications to the branch office, it should be an integral part of the overall application delivery infrastructure. Consequently, there is a large and growing market for WAN acceleration software, with business networks wanting to lower latency, manage quality of service (QoS) for critical and recreational applications, and increase performance. WAN acceleration is a critical enabler for networks aiming to achieve higher throughput and productivity.

In the past, the myth that “ordering more Network bandwidth will solve my problems” was the general response when a business was facing slow application performance across the wide area network. This response was due in part because there were limited options for IT staff to try and improve application performance without increasing Network bandwidth. Application performance issues for remote users, data center consolidation, the growing number of distributed branch offices, and the desire to avoid costly WAN bandwidth upgrades are just a few of the business drivers increasing demand for WAN acceleration and application acceleration solutions. Here are a few key areas that WAN acceleration can really help with:

  • Data Protection and Regulatory Requirements
  • Backup Consolidation and Data Replication
  • Server and Storage Consolidation

The study, entitled “Optimizing Application Delivery over the WAN,” reveals that Best-in-Class organizations are leveraging WAN acceleration solutions to improve the delivery of business-critical applications and increasing these investments at a significantly higher rate than their overall IT spend. “Our findings show that WAN acceleration is most effective for meeting organizations’ bandwidth and application delivery needs, and that deploying WAN acceleration device as a managed service can have even greater benefits, especially when it comes to consistent network monitoring and cost savings.

Identity Fraud - Don’t Make It Easy

With the shopping season in full swing even though we are experiencing a difficult time across all industry sectors there is one business that is surpassing even the mighty retail giants in full Christmas swing when it comes to growth, sadly though for many victims the particular industry in question is identity theft.

Combating the risk of identity fraud should be high on everyone’s agenda but some people are still unsure what it actually is. Without putting to fine a point on it, it is literally the theft of your identity both personal and financial. An alias using your identity and financial information could literally drain your accounts and put you into debt into the bargain.

Many people are blissfully unaware of how simple it is to get somebody else’s personal information without too much effort. It is probably far too easy for example do you shred you paperwork or destroy expired credit cards?

Basic precautions are easy to put in place and on the most part they should be simple common sense. If you are like most households you probably receive far too much junk mail and possibly put it straight into the bin with out prior thought, even pre–completed credit card applications!

You don’t care about that, you bank online, BIG DEAL you’re just as much at risk as someone who throws all the junk mail post in the bin if you are not protective of your online presence. For example do you use the same password for all your banking? Well yes, how many of us can remember all the passwords needed without breaking the terms and conditions of paragraph 8 subsection 5 which states “do not write down your password”.

Un-shredded paperwork and internet activity is not the only way an unscrupulous operator will get hold of your information though. With so much information being held on computer hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones sometimes these are areas of easy pickings for the Identity thief or even random opportunist.

It is much easier than you think for a computer technician to recover your details from your hard drive, even when you think you have deleted them. Or for a data recovery expert to recover the deleted partition when you formatted or wiped them off with free software; after all a data recovery company can recover your information even if it’s a few months out of date.

If you are concerned with digital theft or the possibility of identity theft then you can arranged to have your drive shredded by a certified contractor or securely wiped which is much more environmentally friendly as it allows for the re-use of the none data holding components. Secure destruction or wiping ensures you get a certificate showing when, where and by whom the drive was rendered beyond recovery and have peace of mind.

To find out more about secure data wiping and hard drive disposal call or speak to your local data recovery services company. For visit here for more great computer and Pc help help.

Get Some Facts Regarding Pc Computer

Don’t you think that PC Computers are just great. I can recall back in 1984 when I bought my first computer, a TRS80 16k level 2 computer, a really big beast! I was really proud to bring the beast homeII brought the beast home with pride and let it out of its cage. I plugged it and I was ready to listen to the nicest roar of my life. Complete silence. This machine did not have fans, so it stayed there without a sound. A small led told me it was on. Yes the beast was ALIVE!

I asked myself; Now what?. I went through the books and began to learn basic language. I made little simple basic programs. I was amazed. Look honey! You can read my name on the screen! She looked at me like a mother looking at her kid with a polite smile and stepped out of the room unimpressed. PC computers have progressed quite a bit since then. I have good memories of the shear amazement and pleasure I had with my humongous 16k computer up to this day. Nowadays we can buy so many kinds of PC computers and with a lot of different gadgets, it is just mind-boggling. And what is exciting today will be just lukewarm in the future. Time goes fast in the life of a computer.

A desktop model is something that will sit in your home, and will take care of all your personal needs. Though in some cases, a desktop is more convenient in your home. For some reason, when it comes to using a computer at home, they are more secure, and more convenient. Also, the prices for good PC computers have come down considerably. When you think of computer capabilities from ten to five years ago, and the amount they charged at that time, you are getting twice or even more a computer today for half the money you spent at that time.

Even though laptops are becoming more popular, there is still a big market for PC computers. If you go to an electronic store like Future Shop or Best Buy, you will probably see an even display of both types. Even though I appreciate my laptop, I am glad to have a couple PC computers in my house. Though one of them is very old, I will be replacing it soon with a newer model. I always liked playing online games and find it more interesting on a regular PC computer.

Universal Life Insurance Protects Your Family From Financial Mess.

Universal Life Insurance is one expense that everyone should do in order to safe guard your family’s future. Many people do not like to invest money in life insurance. They believe that putting money in an insurance policy is like wasting your money. Believe me your money is refunded back to you in the form of safe guarding your family. Just think about this, just one expense of your funeral can cost your family thousands of dollars which is taken care of by your insurance cover. It also takes care of your debts and helps protect your family from any financial mess that may arise out of your death.

I remember how one of my friends had suffered for not taking a proper decision in buying a life insurance. We were neighbors and right from our childhood we were good friends. We grew up together and when I became eighteen years of age, I started getting my first insurance related brochures in mail. I used to discuss this with my friend. He never took insurance related topics seriously. He used to say that right now he is covered under his parents insurance and does not has the need to buy any insurance separately. How ever I enrolled myself into one of the whole life insurance plan. Slowly when we both finished our school and for further studies we had to go to a high school. We both took a bank loan for it. By the time we finished our high school and landed up with a good job, the money that we had borrowed from the bank had grown into a large amount. There after he took some personal loans and then a home loan to top it all. Besides these loans he also had taken a car loan and don’t forget the credit card bills too. When all this was summed up it was more then his assets.

I used to advise him to take at least some kind of life insurance at least to take care of his liabilities. He used to say that life insurance is a waste of money and said instead of paying the insurance company he can always use that money to repay the debts that he had created. Neither did he realized that an insurance is a blanket cover for your dependents which will protect them from any untoward thing that may happen accidentally anytime of your life. One day he had a heart attack and he died due to that. His family was shocked of this sudden situation that came to them unexpectedly. They had to face even more problems when one by one all the lenders started claiming on his assets and finally his family of two children and his wife were all homeless with no property at all. Now they are facing the worst time of their life. If only my friend has listened to me, his family would not have been into the finacial disorder and they could have avoided this kind of situation. So for the security reasons and for the safety of yourself and your loved ones it is always advisable to take a life insurance.

Had my friend taken a life insurance policy this kind of situation could have been avoided. Insurance is not a comfort that anyone would like to have, but it is even more important then a luxury so as to protect your loved ones in times of when you are not there. Life insurance is designed to take care of your loved ones and protects them from any adverse happening.

Netbook Computer - The Best Choice For Your Personal Gadget

December 19, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

A netbook pc is probably the most important gadget that you’ll be able to
bring along. Nearly all hotels offer wired or wireless
Internet access these days. In the hotel room, you are able to
connect to the Internet and start surfing like you
normally do. You can chat with friends, work on documents,
download MP3 music files or stream videos.

If you are traveling purely for leisure, you can consider
bringing a atom netbook along. A atom netbook works very much similar to
an ordinary computer, except that it’s meant for viewing
content instead of creating content. You are able to use it to play
movies, read digital books or play music. But don’t expect
it to run any resource intensive applications. If you require work
to be done, it’s more effective to bring along a netbook computer.

Some other differences between the atom netbook and an ordinary
Laptop computer is that the atom netbook is much smaller and lighter. For
this reason, it is the ideal travel companion if you do not
demand the functions of a normal laptop.

These netbook pcs are aiming the business
travelers and cater them with the full essential feature
they have in their PCs but some compromises have been made.
These machines consume lesser power, allow for Internet
connectivity from anyplace, have a longer battery lifetime and
weigh much lesser as compared to traditional laptop computers. There
small sizes make it easy to take them anywhere.

If you enjoy playing games or viewing movies,
notebook is the best mobile solution. If you browse the web more frequently
and type short documents, atom netbook is your first choice.

The Asus Eee PC 901 is basically a beefed-up variant on
the original Eee PC 900 with improved design than the former
model. The build itself has been strengthened, a much
‘meatier’ hinge fitted as well as the edges polished over to
create a more streamline, toy-like appearance than that of the
900. Previous netbook computers have been definitely on the delicate
side; Asus have apparently given their best with the durability
of the 901, and done a very effective job, although screen remains at
8.9″ with 1024×600 resolution.

HP has managed to enter the atom netbook market with their HP
2133 mini-note model. It has the likely to be one of the
most successful atom netbook on the market, with an 8.9″
screen and 1280×768 resolution, bigger keyboard (92% of the
size of a standard notebook), wifi and bluetooth and
finished in brushed aluminium, it is a recipe for a serious
contender to already established atom netbooks.
